Update on Biogen's support to Ukrainian refugees
Biogen has provided us with a community statement to update our community on its work to support Ukrainian refugees, including those living with SMA.
Their initiatives (and that of the Biogen Foundation) include:
- the launch of an employee-giving campaign that doubles employee contributions to provide medical supplies, food, water, shelter and other essential support
- grants of $250,000 to the Swiss Red Cross and Polish Humanitarian Aid and one of €25,000 to us
- working closely with people living with SMA, the medical community and governments, to ensure those living with SMA displaced by the war in Ukraine have access to treatments across Europe. As part of the European Union Temporary Protection Directive Legislation, people living with SMA who leave Ukraine can access approved and reimbursed therapies and care in the European Union Member State where they register.
- communicating regularly with their partners to ensure people living with SMA continue to receive nusinersen. Currently there is no shortage of nusinersen in the countries bordering Ukraine and treatment continues to be available to patients.
