SMA Europe votes for the New Board!
We are delighted to announce that on the 14 of June, during our General Assembly meeting in Munich, SMA Europe delegates chose members of our new Board.
Between 12 and 14 of June, at SMA Europe we held our Annual Meetings with the General Assembly.
During the hybrid General Assembly, the delegates from our Member Organisations voted for the new Board of SMA Europe.
The new Board now comprises seven members with the following charges:
Yasemin Erbas, PhD: President of SMA Europe (SMA Belgium)
Olga Germanenko: Vice-president of SMA Europe (SMA Family Foundation Russia)
Eva Stumpe: Treasurer (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Muskelkranke, Germany)
Marie-Christine Ouillade: Member (AFM Téléthon, France)
Stefan Bos: Member (Vereniging Spierziekten Nederland, The Netherlands)
Simona Joveska: Member (STOP SMA, North Macedonia)
Jakub Tomczyk, PhD: Member (Fundacja SMA, Poland)
Nicole Gusset, PhD remains in her position as the CEO of SMA Europe.
Yasemin Erbas, the new President of our organisation states:
"As the mother of a 9-year old child who is living with SMA type 1, I realise all too well how different our lives would have looked today if it wasn’t for all the hard work of the SMA community in the past decades. I feel incredibly grateful and privileged that I have been given this opportunity to give back.
SMA Europe’s mission is to improve the lives of everyone affected by SMA by promoting patient-relevant transdisciplinary research. In recent years, the SMA landscape has changed immensely, and our organization has grown significantly. I am very proud that our newly elected board reflects this evolution. With seven members who either live with or care for individuals living with SMA, we represent the entire SMA spectrum and a broad geographical region of Europe. Together, we will continue SMA Europe’s mission, and ensure that all unmet needs are heard, and no one is left behind.
I thank Nicole Gusset for her leadership during her past presidency and look forward to continue working with her in her ongoing role as CEO of SMA Europe."
